Australian Govt. plans Teenage Piercing Ban

The Australian Govt. is planning to ban all forms of sexual body piercing for teenagers.

The Deputy Premier Rob Hulls, “So the Government will be putting out a draft bill by the end of the year, so we can have feedback from the public as to whether or not the balance in that bill is appropriate,”

“We want to get this legislation right, but the Government’s preferred position is to ban intimate body piercing for anybody who is under the age of 18,” Mr Hulls said.

However non-sexual piercing is permitted to children under 16, but strictly after parental consent.

“There are a whole range of issues, including health issues, the permanency of scarring that can take place in relation to intimate body piercing,” Mr. Hulls added.

By adopting these measures the Australian Govt. aims at to protecting young people from the fastest growing form of body decoration in Australia.
