Steel navel rings are very common because this is a good quality material and it is quite cheap for production. Although stainless steel contains other metals than steel only, they don’t make it less body-friendly.

They are added to make it more durable and, for instance, chromium is added to it to prevent rusting.
It is the basic requirement for the first time belly button piercings. So if you buy steel body jewelry, you can ask your piercer to insert it into your fresh piercing. After sterilizing, of course. But remember - steel body jewelry can’t be autoclaved (it is the process of sterilizing) if they have any other material elements - acrylic balls, gems.

In fact, between titanium belly ring and stainless steel belly ring there’s no difference in price. Then why not buy a belly button ring made of the hardest metal known? Even though you won’t subject your navel jewelry to rough conditions it’s pleasant to know that you wear a belly button ring made of the highest quality material.

Proper belly button piercing aftercare is needed to heal your “brand new” navel piercing. The quicker your new piercing heals, the sooner you can try new belly rings!
When I got my ear piercings years ago, I treated them with spirit. I had a notion that it would disinfect the piercing therefore healing it quicker. Wrong! Very wrong.
Spirit disinfects wounds but what your fresh navel piercing needs is - healing. There are a few main belly button piercing aftercare tips to observe when you take care of your navel piercing.
Use mild antibacterial soap once a day while taking shower. You can lather up a drop of soap and apply on your navel piercing. Leave it for a while and then wash it off.
Apply salt solution on your fresh navel piercing every day. Just soak some cotton wool with saline solution and place over your navel. If there’s some crusting on the belly ring, remove it gently.
You can make saline solution at home - dilute about 4 teaspoons of non iodized sea salt to 1 gallon of boiled water and apply on your piercing twice a day. Or you can buy a saline solution at a drugstore or on the Net.
